BBQ restaurant’s ‘White Appreciation Day’, complimenting ‘Black History MONTH’ & ‘Hispanic Heritage MONTH’ – Surprise, No RACE-BAITING Al Sharpton appearance?!
A barbecue restaurant in Milliken, Colorado, is planning on hosting a “White Appreciation Day” on June 11, offering only white customers a 10% discount on their meals.
And yes, it’s 2015.
Edgar Antillon, the owner of Rubbin Buttz Barbecue, told WNDU that the day started as a joke, but will actually be implemented.
Antillon, who is Mexican-American, is no stranger to racism — which is why he decided to make a real day to appreciate white Americans, he said.
“We have a whole month for Black History Month. We have a whole month for Hispanic Heritage Month, so we thought the least we could do was offer one day to appreciate white Americans,” he told 9News.
People in the neighborhood are not taking too kindly to Antillon’s idea, including civil rights activist Ricardo Romero, who told 9News that the discount would only increase racial tensions rather than bring people together, as Antillon is hoping.
“If someone felt like they were being discriminated against, they could come to the civil rights division and file a complaint in our office, and we would investigate that,” Colorado Department of Regulatory Agency representative Jennifer McPherson told 9News.
Antillon said it is unlikely he will create discount days for other racial groups, but will consider it.
The Rubbin Buttz website is currently down due to a high volume of traffic. However, people on both sides of the issue have been posting on the restaurant’s Facebook page about the upcoming event.
