EDM Is Officially A $6.2 Billion Business

Ever wonder what the exact worth of Electronic Dance Music is? About $6.2 billion dollars globally, as reported by the International Music Summit in Ibiza.

According to Billboard:

As compiled by EDM trade group the Association for Electronic Music, the figure includes revenue from festivals ($1.03 billion); Las Vegas club dates ($800 million) and other global club gigs ($2.4 billion); traditional recorded music sales ($800 million) and streaming/video services ($600 million); sales of DJ software and hardware ($360 million); DJ earnings from other ventures ($60 million) and value from other platforms like Soundcloud ($140 million).

DJs themselves are now raking in a combined $225 million, doubling the $114 million that was earned by top DJs in the year 2012 alone.

Social media exposure is also up, with the likes of Hardwell, Zedd and Nicky Romero each showing a growth margin of over 350 percent on their social media pages.

Hardwell gained 70,000 new fans over social media for every day of Ultra 2014.
